Donhee Lee’s Appointment as CEO and Chief Editorial Writer of The Korea Senior Newspaper– A Lifelong Journey
On August 15, 2025—a day of historic significance marking both the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation—Immanuel Donhee Lee, UN Peace Ambassador, was inaugurated as CEO and Chief Editorial Writer of The Korea Senior Newspaper. Founded on August 5, 1991, by Chairman Yong-man Lee (1914–2008), a pioneer in senior society and journalism, The Korea Senior Newspaper is the nation’s first newspaper dedicated exclusively to the voices of the elderly. Choosing August 15, rather than the newspaper’s own anniversary date, underscores the symbolic weight and universal meaning of his inauguration. Mr. Lee’s ties to the newspaper run deep. Since 2011, he has served for 14 years as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Editorial Writer, dedicating himself to the protection of senior citizens’ rights, the revival of filial piety and respect for elders, and the defense of society’s most vulnerable. As far back as the 1960s, during his student days, he was a leading advocate for establishing Parents’ Day, Senior Citizens’ Day, and World Parents’ Day. Meeting with Executive Chairman Young-Kwan Cho – Continuing the Roots of Filial CultureA recent meeting with Young-Kwan Cho, Executive Chairman of the Challenge Korea Movement Headquarters, was especially meaningful. The conversation between Donhee Lee, known as the “Father of Parents’ Day,” and Chairman Cho, who has led the Challenge Korea Movement, reaffirmed their shared vision of spreading filial culture and the spirit of challenge across the globe. Chairman Cho expressed his deep respect, saying, “President Donhee Lee is the root of the Korean spirit and a living symbol of challenge.” In response, Mr. Lee remarked, “Executive Chairman Cho is the successor who will carry forward the spirit of challenge for the next generation.” The two pledged continued collaboration in globalizing filial culture, discovering and nurturing young challengers, and promoting the spirit of challenge worldwide.
